The Opposition Presidency: Leadership and the Constraints of History (Joseph V. Hughes, Jr., and Holly O. Hughes Series in the Presidency and leaDership Studies, 11)

An intriguing and scholarly study
The Opposition Presidency: Leadership & The Constraints Of History by David A. Crockett (Assistant Professor of Political Science, Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas) is an insightful 286-page treatise (including Notes, Bibliography, and Index) surveying and examining American Presidents throughout U.S. history as "opposition leaders." Focusing especially on Grover Cleveland, Woodrow Wilson, Dwight Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and Bill Clinton, but generalizing to others as well, The Opposition Presidency studies political balances, these presidents' attempts to push their agendas (often past a Congress or Senate of the opposite political party), and a great deal more. An intriguing and scholarly study, The Opposition Presidency is especially recommended for Political Science reference collections and supplemental reading lists.

THIS IS A FABULOUS BOOK TO READ OUT LOUD
I adored this book when I was a kid (some 30 years ago) and since then I have read it out loud to lots of kids -- including groups in hospitals and at libraries. They always love it -- expecially the age 3 to 5 crowd. The illustrations are very simple, but really appealing to kids. It's also a terrific book for beginning readers since the vocabulary is pretty simple.

LOVE THE DETAILED CHAPTERS
Often times books by the Boone and Crockett Club are just listings of records but that can be boring. I like this book because it has long and detailed chapters with plenty of historical photographs at the front of the book and I love the colored plates of illustrations by Guy Cohleach. This is a heavy book that is well-worth the pricetag. I counted a minimum of 300 photographs!! Great book for anyone who lives wild animals of North America. I bought this book with COLORADO'S BIGGEST BUCKS AND BULLS AND OTHER GREAT COLORADO BIG GAME, SECOND EDITION.

A MUST for Elk and Mule Deer Hunters
This hardcover book is a must for anyone, like myself, who loves to hunt elk and mule deer. Each state and province is separate in the book and each animal from the Boone and Crockett is listed by the state or province from which it was taken. I also found the book, COLORADO'S BIGGEST BUCKS AND BULLS and Other Great Colorado Big Game, Second Edition, to be of help when planning mule deer and elk hunts. The Records of North American Ek and Mule Deer book has excellent field photos and tons of statistical information about my two favorite animals. Plus, I liked the chapter written by Jim Zumbo.

The Goats Have My Vote
If you ever wondered where to hunt for wild sheep, Rocky Mountain goats and pronghorn, this is the book you must buy. I especially liked the illustration of the bighorn ram by Hayden Lambson the cover. This is an attractive book that is small enough to fit into my hunting backpack when hunting for these critters. Pronghorn are some of my favorite animals to track, so this book tells me that Wyoming is THE place to go for Boone and Crockett-quality animals. The book was written a few years ago but it is still a good place to start when doing your pre-season planning. I bought this book with the book COLORADO'S BIGGEST BUCKS AND BULLS AND OTHER GREAT COLORADO BIG GAME because I was in Colorado.

Sanctuary
Published in Paperback by Bethany House (May, 1999)
Author: Marsha Crockett

Women Are Survivors
"Sanctuary" has helped me feel good about myself, even during the most difficult times. So many books that deal with serious problems facing women never really touch the heart of someone struggling with a serious problem. They can even make you feel worse-with their checklists of things you need to do to "fix" the problem and "inspiring" stories of women who lived to see the problem solved. Life just isn't that simplistic. Marsha Crockett writes about serious issues: live-crippling illness, rejection of mothers by their children, abortion, death of a husband, loneliness, and pornography addiction. She never takes the simplistic approach, "Pray, and it will go away." The women are real, and they helped me feel like someone truly understands the struggles of a woman when she has no promise her problem will ever disappear. Marsha Crockett emphasizes the power of faith and God to help women, but she never trivializes religion. She never suggests that we can pray to God and He will take our problems away. "Sanctuary" really helps a woman find comfort through the Bible and the true stories of other women. I have given copies to many close friends. I'm also excited to see the tips on using "Sanctuary" for small group discussions.

Secret Prophecy of Fatima Revealed: New Age Visions of the Virgin Mary
Published in Paperback by Inner Light Pubns (July, 1982)
Authors: Arthur Crockett and Timothy Green Beckley
Average review score:

ALMOST AS POPULAR AS NOSTRADAMUS
The prophecies of Fatima are almost as well known -- and respected -- as those of the famous French seer Nostradamus. In l9l7 three children had repeated visions of the Virgin Mary in Portugal. They were given prophecies concerning World Wars I and II as well as the world wide spread of communnism. But their third prophecy was not officially released until recently...and there are those who maintain that the real revelations were not disclosed by the church. This book not only reveals what the Third Secret Prophecy of Fatima may consist of; but also gives photographic proof that the Virgin Mary has appeared in over two hundred incidents in the last several decades.Arab terrorists? UFOs? End of the World? The book is very readable and presented in an easy to understand format. It has a good number of pictures and follows a logical order as oppossed to some other books I have TRIED to read on the subject. This is NOT an overly religious approach -- the authors do not seem to have any axe to grind. I recommend this book highly.

See the Wind, Mommy: Sensing God's Presence Through the Lives of Your Children
Published in Hardcover by Word Publishing (May, 1996)
Author: Marsha Crockett
Average review score:

Children are stepping stones to intimacy with God.
This review appeared previously in the November, 1997 Christian Library Journal.

Hidden inside this little gift book is an effective 12-week daily devotional tool for mothers of young children. Each chapter begins with an anecdote from Marsha Crockett's journal--an experience she had with her small daughters, and what God taught her through it. The seven daily devotions which follow are brief enough to complete in moments stolen between mothering responsibilities. The first six consist of a key scriptural verse, and a key thought--a question applying the verse to the reader's life. The seventh day's devotion is a prayer relating to the week's theme. Each week there's a new To Do list--ideas to help the reader walk with the Lord or make new memories with her children. There is also My Turn space for the reader to record her own insights, thoughts, or anecdotes.

The overall theme of See the Wind, Mommy is that our circumstances--including children underfoot--are not obstacles to intimacy with God, but rather the stepping stones. Crockett provides an excellent model as she turns the stories about her little girls into modern-day parables.

Great Book!! Hard to find another as Well Crafted !!!
I read this book 18 years ago! But it was one of those stories that I never forgot, and wish I could find others as engrossing and hard to put down! The writing is comparable to the Earlier works of Stephen King.
It combines old mythology with a modern story. My only regret is that Linda Crockett Gray never wrote a sequel. I usually hate sequels, but I really had hoped for one from this story. ... As I said... It is comparable to Stephen Kings "Carrie" and "Firestarter." Read it and I am sure you'll agree !!!!
